• This strain is a derivative of E. coli 15 but parts of the 97.5' to 1.5' region could have come from E. coli B or K-12.
• thyA42-- E. coli 15 mutation
• thyA42-- Strains with this marker must have their medium supplemented with thymine (25ug/ml). This is true even for rich medium such as LB. Otherwise thymine starvation can lead to thymineless death.
• deoB20-- E. coli 15 mutation.
• deoB20 was formerly called thyR32
• strR = streptomycin resist.
